ICP Laboratory Water Test for Reef Aquariums — 90+ Parameters, Prepaid Return Shipping Included

The Fauna Marin Reef ICP TOTAL Test is a comprehensive mail-in water analysis service for reef hobbyists who want a complete, lab-grade picture of their aquarium's water chemistry — far beyond what any home test kit can deliver. A single sample sent to the Fauna Marin laboratory is analyzed using ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy) instrumentation and returned as a full electronic report within 24-48 hours of arrival, covering more than 90 individual parameters with dosage and action recommendations for each value outside of target range.

The test covers every major category of reef water chemistry. Basic values include conductivity, density, salinity, pH, alkalinity, CO2, and water color. Macro elements cover the ten primary mineral constituents of reef water: chloride, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, calcium, potassium, bromine, strontium, boron, and fluoride. Nutrients include nitrate, nitrite, total phosphorus, ortho-phosphate, and silicate. The trace element and contaminant panel covers 28 elements including aluminum, arsenic, barium, lead, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, iron, iodine, copper, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, mercury, zinc, and others that home test kits cannot detect. Relation values provide contextual analysis including salinity line, dynamic elements, and relevant line comparisons. A separate RO water panel tests 20 contaminants, nutrients, and trace elements in your RO source water — valuable for identifying problems upstream of your aquarium.

A prepaid FedEx Ground return shipping label is included in every kit. The label is valid for Continental U.S. shipments only.

Key Features:

  • ICP-AES laboratory analysis of more than 90 reef aquarium water parameters in a single sample
  • Covers basic values, macro elements, nutrients, trace elements, contaminants, and relation values
  • Separate RO water panel tests 20 additional contaminants, nutrients, and trace elements in your RO source water
  • Electronic results delivered within 24-48 hours of sample arrival at the Fauna Marin laboratory
  • Results include dosage and action recommendations for values outside of target range
  • Prepaid FedEx Ground return shipping label included (Continental U.S. only)
  • Register your test at lab.faunamarin.de before sending your sample

Ideal For:

  • Reef hobbyists who want a complete, lab-grade baseline of their aquarium's water chemistry that home test kits cannot provide
  • Anyone diagnosing unexplained coral stress, color loss, or growth problems where standard parameter testing has not identified the cause
  • Hobbyists who want to verify their RO source water quality alongside their tank water in a single submission
  • Anyone setting up a new system who wants to establish a verified water chemistry baseline before adding livestock

Pro Tips:

  • Register your test at lab.faunamarin.de before sending your sample. Registration is required before the laboratory can process your results. Do not send the sample without completing registration first, or your results may be delayed.
  • Test your RO source water and tank water at the same time. The TOTAL kit includes an RO water panel alongside the reef tank panel. Use both to identify whether any contaminants or anomalies in your tank water are entering through the RO source rather than from a tank-side cause.
  • Run an ICP test before making significant dosing changes. If you are planning to start or change a two-part, calcium reactor, or trace element dosing program, an ICP baseline test first will tell you where your parameters actually stand, so you're correcting a known starting point rather than estimating.
  • Use the Fauna Marin Multi-Reference Solution to verify your home test kits against ICP results. Once you receive your ICP report, compare those certified values against readings from your home test kits and use the correction factor calculator to quantify any variance. This tells you exactly how far off each kit reads and lets you correct all future manual readings accordingly.
  • ICP results reflect the water at the time of sampling. Parameters like alkalinity, calcium, and nitrate can shift meaningfully between sampling and results delivery. For the most useful snapshot, sample consistently — same time of day, same tank conditions — and note any dosing or water change events that occurred close to the sample date.
